Dan Kane

Director of Mad! Science


Dan (he/him) is a soil scientist, biogeochemist, and agricultural ecologist who’s been working at the intersection of agriculture and climate for 15 years. Prior to joining Mad Agriculture, Dan worked as a technical consultant supporting the development of agricultural carbon offset projects, an academic researcher, and a farmer. His research focuses on advancing methods to monitor soil carbon stocks in agricultural systems and how healthy soils support resilient agricultural systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from Yale School of the Environment and a M.S. in Plant, Soil, and Microbial Sciences from Michigan State University.

As the Director of Mad! Science, Dan’s work focuses on monitoring the impact of Mad Agriculture’s programs and exploring how to leverage carbon finance and ecosystem service payments to support farmers.
